1980 GMC Champs

The 1981 volleyball team made history at Lima Senior,
becoming the first girls athletic team to go undefeated
in a regular season. The team finished the regular
season 22-0.
The varsity team played under the leadership of Corine
Brown, who was in her sixth year at the helm.
The Spartans were ranked No. 1 in the Greater Miami
Conference (GMC) that year and Coach Brown was
named GMC Coach of the Year.
One of the highlights of the season was winning the
Galion Tournament, defeating Madison and Marion,
and then Mansfield St. Peter in the finals. The team
also won the Shawnee Invitational, defeating Troy,
Shawnee and New Knoxville.
The Spartans continued rolling into the tournament,
beating Tiffin Columbian 15-7, 15-1 and then Celina
15-8, 15-10 to become Sectional Champions.
Lima Senior won its first game at Districts, defeating
Lexington 15-7, 15-8. The season ended when the
Spartans fell to Shawnee 9-15, 13-15. It was an
amazing year for this group of student athletes,
finishing with a 25-1 record. The team was only forced
to play a third set three times all season.
The seniors on the team had a three-year record of
57-6. They were 15-2 in 1978, 17-3 in 1979 and 25-1
in 1981.
